About myself
Hello everyone! I am Govind Kant Mishra, and I am from India. I pursued my bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from National Institute of Technology Patna, India. Later on, completed the Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, India. Currently, I am based in Enschede, Netherlands, where I am pursuing a PhD at the University of Twente.
Information about my project
My PhD is based on exploring the grain morphology effect on the initiation and flow evolution of the submarine landslides. By incorporating the real shape of the soil solids, a detailed micromechanical investigation will be carried out on the mechanism associated with this phenomena. This will help in predicting the failure and flow propagation of the submarine landslide more precisely. In my PhD, most of the work involve the numerical simulation (based on coupled Discrete Element Method and Lattice Boltzmann Method). See my project page for more information.
Why POSEIDON?
Let’s now dive into something truly exciting – POSEIDON! It is a prestigious EU horizon MSCA project – a collaborative research network that brings together PhD candidates and partner institutions from across Europe to tackle cutting-edge challenges, with a focus on offshore hazard.
While I was about to finish my Master and am looking for the PhD position, I cam across POSEIDON through ALERT Geomaterial website. When I go through the project description, it matches perfectly with what I was looking for, which inspired me for applying to this project. I applied, hoping for the best, and was incredibly fortunate to be selected.
Since joining, I have a great experience. I have had the chance to meet and connect with my fellow researcher from different universities all over the Europe. Beyond research, this project offers enriching opportunities in the form of secondments. This will allow me to visit the other institutes to learn the new skill which will be beneficial in my research work.
Being a part of the POSEIDON is more than just a PhD, it’s a journey of collaboration, growth, and inspiration.
